International regulators have agreed to suspend the North Atlantic Datalink Mandate (NAT DLM) for three months to provide more flexibility for traffic that flies through the region during the Covid-19 crisis, NBAA reported. Approved by the partners in the International Civil Aviation Organization’s North Atlantic System Planning Group, the NAT DLM is waived through June 30.

Boeing will suspend all operations at its 787 factory in Charleston, South Carolina, until further notice, starting at the end of the site’s second shift on April 8, the company announced today. The move affects the Airport Campus, Emergent Operations, Interiors Responsibility Center South Carolina and Propulsion South Carolina. Boeing added it will continue to conduct “enhanced cleaning activities” at the site and monitor the global supply chain during the suspension.

Rather than attempt a huge airline sector bailout, the UK has stuck to its plans—with broad industry support—lowering barriers to loans to business announced last month while telling the aviation industry it can take advantage of the help just like everyone else. The effort has resulted in EasyJet, which grounded its entire fleet at the end of March, arranging a £600 million ($735 million) loan on Monday with the UK Treasury while also securing $500 million in credit facilities to ensure continued liquidity.

Airbus has decided to pause commercial aircraft production and assembly activity at its German sites in Bremen and Stade and its U.S. A220/A320 manufacturing facility in Mobile, Alabama, the company announced Monday. Airbus said the actions come in response to several factors related to the Covid-19 pandemic including high inventory levels at the sites and the various government recommendations and requirements that affect flow at different stages of production.

Stelios Haji-Ioannou, who founded EasyJet and whose family holds a 34 percent share in the UK low-cost carrier, said Monday he will solicit support from other shareholders to terminate a contract with Airbus for “107 additional useless aircraft.” In a two-page statement, Haji-Ioannou called the termination of the £4.5 billion Airbus contract for A320-family jets the “only way to preserve the value for all shareholders and all the bondholders too.”
