Van Nuys Airport (VNY)honored 40 jet operators at the sixth annual Friendly Flyer noise-abatement awards ceremony. The program honored pilots and jet operators who successfully adhere to the fly friendly and quiet departure programs at the highest level and who also follow all other related policies and procedures. Nine of the 40 winners were honored as legacy winners for receiving the award each year since the program’s inception.

“We are very pleased that this year we have increased the number of Friendly Flyers to 40 from 34 last year. The program continues to achieve measurable noise reduction at and around Van Nuys Airport,” said Jeffery Daar, a member of the Los Angeles Board of Airport Commissioners. “We congratulate and thank each of our award recipients for their commitment to quiet flying practices, which reduce noise and enhance the quality of life in our neighboring communities.”

Los Angeles World Airport established the extensive noise-management program at VNY. The Friendly Flyer program is voluntary and regularly updated to expand the number of involved aircraft while also incorporating new target noise levels. “Van Nuys Airport is committed to being a good neighbor, and each year we work in close collaboration with our jet aircraft owners, operators and pilots, and airport and aviation tenants to achieve meaningful improvements and appreciate their efforts,” said Van Nuys Airport manager Flora Margheritis.
