Honeywell is this week introducing its new GoDirect suite of aviation service applications to Asian aircraft operators at the ABACE show in Shanghai. The suite offers pilots and support crew direct access to Honeywell services such as flight planning, weather data, and maintenance, as well as inflight WiFi for passengers, pilots and operators.

According to Honeywell, it developed GoDirect to help customers make better informed choices and to operate in a more cost effective way. The software seeks to make it easier for pilots, maintenance crews and operators to make better use of the huge volumes of data now generated by modern aircraft inflight.

The GoDirect services and applications on display at the ABACE show (Booth P336) include GoDirect Flight Preview, GoDirect Fuel Efficiency and Weather Information Service. The Flight Preview app allows pilots to select an airport, runway, transition and approach, which can be viewed in a 3-D version on a map. Fuel Efficiency provides operators with information to monitor fuel consumption and analyzes data from approximately 100 reports and existing airline systems. Finally, the Weather Information Service offers weather data for pilots to choose the best flight path.

“Software helps drive aircraft advancements to create efficient processes and a better flight experience for operators, pilots and passengers,” said Honeywell Aerospace’s Asia Pacific president Steven Lien. “With GoDirect services, Honeywell integrates software and connectivity capabilities in one place to meet the owners, passengers, flight crews and maintenance personal needs. In addition, the access to these capabilities is consolidated on a single platform, and controlled through a mobile device allowing operators to use devices that they’re already comfortable with.”

According to Andy Gill, Honeywell Aerospace’s senior director for business aviation in the Asia Pacific region, the avionics, cabin systems and engine manufacturer carefully studies growth patterns in the market to derive decisions on expanding its customer support network. He told AIN that Hong Kong and Singapore continue to be hubs of business aviation activity in the region, and that other emerging hot spots are in southeaster mainland China and the Philippines.
