Completion & Refurbishment Special Report 2014: The Battle for the High Ground

It’s designed to be the most comfortable and serene interior man-made environment on or above the planet. But today’s contemporary business aircraft cabin is a raging battleground, as OEMs vie to one-up each other with their interior features, completion centers compete to create ever more customized private airliner projects and MROs market expanding cabin refurbishment options. Ammunition comes from an arsenal of new products and services developed in-house or pouring in from a widening network of sophisticated system and component suppliers around the globe, as more resources are devoted to this theater of engagement. Fortunately there are no battlefield casualties. In fact, passengers, flight crews and maintainers can all operate more effectively and comfortably thanks to the results of this contest.

This past year has seen major advances on several fronts: OEMs introduced the cabins of several new business aircraft; new companies and partnerships were established to pursue growing opportunities in the completion and refurb arena; completion centers began accepting green 787s, heralding the next generation of private aircraft interior design; while new comforts from self-contained steam showers to wireless electric seats entered the marketplace. Here’s our “inside” look at the biggest C&R developments of the period.
