Is Maglev the Future of Aircraft Takeoff?

Aiming to meet European Commission goals to reduce noise, chemical emissions, and energy consumption, France’s Onera is studying a concept called Gabriel in which an electric magnetically levitating platform assists aircraft takeoff and landing. This would also allow traditional landing gear to be removed, saving weight and fuel during flight.
