Minneapolis-based regional carrier and Trans States Holdings subsidiary Compass Airlines will completely shut down on April 7, when code-share partner American Airlines removes its entire regional operation from Los Angeles. The memo to employees explaining the reasons for the closure comes days after CEO Rick Leach communicated that St. Louis-based Trans States Airlines would accelerate its previously planned drawdown of operations and close on April 1.

Qantas and its low-fare Jetstar subsidiary will suspend all scheduled international flying as of late March following an Australian government advisory to all citizens not to travel overseas, Qantas Group announced Thursday. Although it plans to retain 60 percent of its domestic flying, the company has decided to temporarily lay off two-thirds of its 30,000-strong workforce until at least the end of May.

Textron Aviation will furlough most of its U.S. employees for four weeks in response to the Covid-19 pandemic, adding that it’s also adjusting its production to align with anticipated market demand. Austrian Airlines and Canada’s Porter Airlines will each suspend all flight operations this week due to Covid-19-related entry bans and the rapid decline in air travel, the airlines announced Wednesday. Austrian’s suspension starts Wednesday and Porter’s begins on Friday. Initially, Austrian will cancel all flights scheduled until March 28, while Porter doesn’t plan to resume service until June 1.
