The International Air Transport Association (IATA) is advocating a coordinated pan-European approach to restart airline service interrupted by the Covid-19 emergency. However, in a press briefing on Thursday, the industry group acknowledged that synchronized timing exiting from lockdown restrictions and a consistent approach on procedures might prove difficult given the different stages of the Covid-19 pandemic in which various countries find themselves.

In a bid to increase business for its service network and ease the financial burden of upgrades and refurbishments on customers during the Covid-19 pandemic, Textron Aviation has unveiled an exclusive financing program for certain upgrades and modifications on most U.S.registered Cessna Citations that are performed at one of its 11 service centers in the U.S. The new financing program covers upgrades such as Garmin G5000 avionics or Gogo Avance L5 connectivity.

The FAA is temporarily cutting back the operating hours of about 100 of its air traffic control towers where movements have significantly decreased. Adjusting the hours will enable the agency to minimize health risks while ensuring continued safe operations, the FAA said in announcing its plans. Further, this will reduce the possibility of temporary tower closures occurring from Covid-19 exposures—something the FAA has grappled with at a number of locations throughout the country.

Daher's Kodiak Aircraft unit in Sandpoint, Idaho, donated use of a brand-new—and not-yet-painted—Kodiak 100 Series II turboprop single, as well as a company pilot, last week to deliver 240 ventilators to Sacramento, California, for the Department of Public Health’s Emergency Preparedness Office. The ventilators were manufactured by Idaho-based Percussionaire.

Delta Air Lines CEO Ed Bastian told analysts during the company’s first-quarter earnings call Wednesday that he expected as much as three years to pass before a “sustainable recovery” from the Covid-19 crisis takes hold. In the meantime, he said, Delta has begun to accelerate steps to streamline operations, simplify its fleet, and advance timelines on airport infrastructure projects as it cuts costs to address a 90 percent reduction in revenues expected this quarter.

Duncan Aviation is offering the installation of a chemical-free air purification system at its three main facilities and satellite shops. The MRO provider has installed the system in a Gulfstream and is working on approvals for other aircraft.

The National Air Transportation Association (NATA) has established a task force to ensure that the Part 135 community will be prepared once demand returns for charter. NATA's Part 135 Covid-19 Task Force will address concerns and develop best practices covering flight crew safety, aircraft sanitation, and the minimizing of contact between flight crews, passengers, and ground-handling service professionals.
