Global business aviation flight activity continues to recover from its Covid-19-induced slumber, with the moving seven-day average steadily improving 40 percent over the past three weeks, according to data released by WingX Advance on Thursday. That average rose from a low of about 3,600 flights per day in mid-April to some 5,200 flights per day as of May 6.

The U.S. Senate Commerce Committee will take a closer look at the harm the Covid-19 pandemic has wrought on the aviation industry during a hearing this week that will include the participation of manufacturing, airlines, and airport representatives. Scheduled for Wednesday, the hearing, “The State of the Aviation Industry: Examining the Impact of the Covid-19 Pandemic,” will address the current status of the industry, challenges resulting from the Covid crisis, and the implementation of the CARES Act.
After introducing aircraft disinfection service at its three main MRO facilities in March in response to the Covid-19 pandemic, Duncan Aviation has expanded it to five of its satellite avionics shops, with plans to add more locations in the coming weeks. The company’s satellite locations now offering the service are in Fort Lauderdale, Florida; Houston; Seattle; Teterboro, New Jersey; and Van Nuys, California.
The European Commission (EC) has agreed to push back the June 7 deadline for ADS-B equipage until December 7, citing the difficulties that operators have faced in meeting the mandate during the Covid-19 pandemic. “The outbreak of the pandemic of Covid-19 virus and the resulting impact on the aviation sector has led to unforeseeable obstacles for aircraft operators to pursue their activities to bring the aircraft in compliance,” the EC stated.

South African airline Comair said on Tuesday it would enter business rescue—the South African equivalent of a U.S.-style bankruptcy process—to safeguard the interests of the company and its stakeholders after the Covid-19 crisis disrupted an existing turnaround plan. The company, which reported a loss of 564 million South African rand ($30.1 million) during the first half of its 2020 fiscal year, stopped flying on March 26 in response to a nationwide lockdown and expects to remain grounded until at least October.
