David Neeleman’s startup airline Breeze Airways has delayed its debut until sometime next year due to drastically depressed U.S. markets resulting from Covid-19, a company spokesman confirmed on Monday.

Originally planning to start serving midsize cities pairs lacking nonstop service by the end of 2020, Breeze had agreed to sublease 30 Embraer E-195s from another Neeleman-established airline, Brazil’s Azul, and take delivery this past May. It has also ordered 60 Airbus A220-300s for delivery in April next year.

Even with a robust rebound in business jet flight activity since the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic, industry analyst Brian Foley doesn’t believe it will translate to a surge in orders for and deliveries of new business jets, according to a report released today by Brian Foley Associates. The pandemic’s lasting effects on private air travel won’t be known for some time to come, he added.

London Biggin Hill Airport (BQH) is introducing a contactless travel initiative to highlight what it says are the health and safety benefits of private aviation. Under the plan announced on July 2, the privately owned UK airport has published a commitment to mitigate the risk of Covid-19 infection through measures such as two-meter separation markings, minimizing personal contact between passengers and with staff, and the use of personal protective equipment.

From July 10, the UK government will lift the requirement to remain under a 14-day quarantine at a fixed address for travelers arriving from a list of 59 countries published on Friday. Notably, the list does not include the U.S., Brazil, Russia, and India–all of which now have significantly higher rates of Covid-19 infection than the UK.

Franco-Italian turboprop maker ATR will cut production by 50 percent and reduce its workforce by 204 positions—including 186 in France—in response to Covid 19-related business pressures, the company said Thursday. ATR delivered 67 airplanes last year and now expects to ship between 30 and 35 this year. The company said a consultation process with unions has begun with a view to reaching agreements this autumn.

The telemedicine devices allow flight crew to measure and transmit vital clinical data and images, along with real-time voice and video, to medical assessment provider MedAire’s 24/7 ground center.

The International Civil Aviation Organization’s (ICAO) governing council has agreed to change the emissions baseline specified by the Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation (Corsia) to consider the effect of Covid-19 on international air traffic. It's a decision welcomed by the International Air Transport Association (IATA) but deplored by environmental groups.
