Extended-reality specialist GridRaster is seeing a jump in aerospace companies interested in fast-tracking technologies such as augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) as the Covid-19 pandemic drags on. GridRaster, which provides AR/VR for aerospace manufacturers, released the results of a study finding 42 percent of the respondents planned to implement such technologies in the next 12 months.

Business aviation movements continue to strengthen globally, down just 12 percent year-over-year so far in September, a marked improvement from the respective declines in June, July, and August of 20 percent, 18 percent, and 16 percent, according to industry analyst WingX. Overall, the sector continues to be more buoyant than airline flying, which is down 57 percent in the U.S. and 60 percent in Europe as it continues to suffer under the lingering effects of Covid-19, WingX added.

As charter flights start to pick up, the lingering pandemic has raised a new series of questions for operators and brokers on how to handle cancellations and other issues that crop up as a result of Covid-19. “It does get really complicated. There isn’t a lot of guidance,” Elleana Spanos, senior legal counsel at broker Air Charter Service, said on Wednesday during the latest National Air Transportation Association (NATA) Air Charter Roundtable webinar. “It’s all so fresh. We’re just working our way through it.”

The Middle East & North Africa Business Aviation Association (MEBAA) today postponed its biennial MEBAA Show from early December to late February, citing “concerns related to the evolving Covid-19 outbreak.” The regional business aviation show, which was set to take place from December 8 to 10 at the Dubai World Central airshow site, will now be held from February 22 to 24 at the same venue.

JetAviva attributed this success to an increase in first-time buyers entering the market as a result of Covid-19, as well as its focus on turboprops and light to midsize business jets.

All sectors of general aviation experienced a downturn in the first half of 2020, according to statistics released today by the General Aviation Manufacturers Association (GAMA). For the industry facing hurdles from the Covid-19 crisis, total billings were off by more than 20 percent, a full $2 billion less than the same span a year ago.

Wheels Up and OEM Textron Aviation today unveiled a Beechcraft 350i with an orange livery to recognize the private aviation provider’s Meals Up initiative with Feeding America. Announced in March, Meals Up is a campaign to provide meals to those facing hunger during the Covid-19 pandemic and so far has raised the equivalent of 47 million in meals for Feeding America’s network of 200 food banks across the country.

Business aircraft activity last month in the U.S., Canada, and Caribbean was off by 21.2 percent year-over-year as the Covid-19 pandemic continues to weigh on air travel, according to TraqPak data released yesterday by Argus International. However, analysts at the company are optimistic about continued recovery this month, predicting just a 14 percent decrease in flying versus September 2020.
