Ryanair remains committed to the 737 Max and is still pondering ordering more of them in spite of the Covid-19 travel slump, group CEO Michael O’Leary said during the company’s November 2 results presentation for the first half of the financial year ending March 31. The Ireland-based company intends also to bring forward deliveries of the Max 200s it has on order, though this will depend on the re-certification of the 737 Max by the FAA and the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA).

Business aviation flight hours increased 87.5 percent between the second and third quarters, according to Jet Support Services’ (JSSI) quarterly Business Aviation Index. Further, business aviation activity has recovered to 78.4 percent of 2019 levels after average flight hours reached all-time lows in April due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) is suspending the development of its SpaceJet M90 airliner in a bid to stem steep losses. On Friday, the Japanese group announced the move as part of a revised medium-term business plan, saying it will continue some work on type certification documentation with a view to possibly resuming the program at some point in the future.

The number of commercial airliner orders logged during the third quarter of 2020 was the lowest on record, according to data released today by the UK aerospace trade group ADS. Just 13 new orders were placed, representing a 91.4 percent dip compared with the same period in 2019, as airlines continue to scale back capacity in the face of further fall in passenger bookings triggered by the second wave of Covid-19 infections in many parts of Europe and other regions.
