The ProFlight app can give users weather information for a 10-km area, rather than 140 km.
Sweden-based Avtech has released the new ProFlight iPad app to help pilots view more-focused weather information from the UK’s Met Office, delivered via Avtech’s Sigma service. According to Avtech, “Combined with our patented algorithms, Sigma can predict weather hazards with an accuracy of only 10 km, individually for any flight. Normally the pilots have access to a global weather grid that covers a very coarse area of 140 km.”
Using the ProFlight app, pilots can see horizontal and vertical views of weather for their planned flight and more easily plan how to avoid severe weather. ProFlight is available for a free three-month trial.
