The number of unauthorized entries by non-commercial aircraft into controlled airspace requiring ATC clearance has shot up from about 800 in 2008 to approximately 2,100 last year, according to the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA).
To help stem this rising trend, EASA has published an information page that consolidates links to several videos and tips that aim to help reduce the risk of airspace infringement and subsequent midair collision threats. All materials and links are part of a Europe-wide campaign that has been initiated and supported by the Safety Promotion Network of National Aviation Authorities.
Besides the EASA tips and videos, the information page offers examples and scenarios from several European countries. “They all tell unique and interesting stories,” EASA said. “It is recommended that you start with those videos corresponding to the countries where you want to fly or cross.”
The information page also contains a section of downloads for a list of each country’s ATC providers, flight plan filing portals, flight information services, and airspace infringement portals. Several countries also provide digital maps, flight-planning software, and apps that will “make your flight preparation easier and more accurate,” EASA said. ”We encourage you to use them.”
