EMS Satcom (Hall 4 Stand C17E) has been selected by the French Navy as part of a team that includes Eclipse and France Telecom to provide a broadband high-speed data solution for six of its maritime patrol aircraft, with an option for two more.
The overall value of the project to equip Atlantique II and Falcon 50 aircraft is some $6 million and it represents a collaborative effort between Eclipse and France Telecom to provide EMS Satcom systems, airtime and post-sales support to the Navy with a fixed monthly-fee financing package. The broadband package will handle video, high-speed data and voice on multi-mission maritime aircraft.
This is another example of the growing popularity of commercial off-the-shelf solutions for the military and is a step toward the French Navy’s objective to develop capabilities that are more compatible with its network-centric operations strategy. The six aircraft will be equipped within the next two years.
