The Ohio Regional Business Aviation Association (ORBAA) plans to host students, educators, and volunteers for a workforce development event on September 20. The inaugural event, Girls Soar: Exploring STEM Careers in Aviation, will be held at the Ohio State University Airport in Columbus. ORBAA is partnering with Dreams Soar, the PAST Foundation, and I Know I Can to support the event.
Shaesta Waiz, a headliner at the event, is scheduled to share her story of becoming the youngest female solo pilot to circumnavigate the globe. Hands-on STEM activities will be featured throughout the event, with a goal of inspiring middle school girls to learn about aviation and STEM careers.
The intention of the Girls Soar event is to create an aviation-based STEM program for the Columbus area that can later be adapted for a national-scale curriculum. ORBAA and the PAST Foundation will work together to identify pre- and post-event data that captures demonstrated interest in aviation.
