Ryan's latest calls out traffic alerts

Ryan International recently introduced a new model of its traffic collision alert device (TCAD) that features an extended horizontal range and audible position alerting.

The TCAD 9900BX uses Ryan’s patented directional antenna system for active interrogation and reception of nearby aircraft transponder replies in both radar and non-radar environments. With a 10-nm horizontal range, the company claims the TCAD 9900BX provides “the longest range views of any traffic collision alerting device available today.”

Providing a 30-second decision time at 1,200-kt closing rates, the 9900BX not only shows the threat aircraft on its digital display, but also audibly calls out threat aircraft with the clock face position and relative vertical position, as in: “Traffic! 12 o’clock! High!”

Pilots can program the 9900BX’s air traffic shield to interrogate a customized air traffic shield area with specifications ranging between 200 and 10,000 ft vertical coverage and 0.5 to 10 nm. Several third-party-multifunction displays can be used with the 9900BX for a quick-view color rendering of threat traffic.
