Vegas Bets Big on New Runway

A $67 million resurfacing project on the 14,500-foot main runway at Las Vegas McCarran International has begun. Runway 7L/25R, which handles one third of the city’s annual aviation traffic, will be closed for two six-month-long periods. The eastern half of the runway is currently undergoing removal of the asphalt and replacement with more durable concrete, a job that is scheduled to last until May, allowing full capacity for the peak summer months. The second half of the project, which is financed with FAA grants and airport-generated funds, will start next October on the western half of the runway and conclude in May 2016.
